Calgary unemployment rate increases to 9.8 per cent in July
The Calgary Region's unemployment rate rose by 0.6 percentage points in July to 9.8 per cent.
Calgary lost 1,900 jobs last month, for a total of 802,500 positions, down from 804,400 positions in June. Calgary’s labour force participation rate saw an increase of 0.2 percentage points to 70.3 per cent.
Alberta’s unemployment rate fell by 0.8 percentage points to 8.5 per cent in July, compared with 9.3 per cent in June. The national jobless rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points to 7.5 per cent.
The Accommodation & Food Services and Construction sectors saw the strongest gains last month with 2,900 and 2,800 jobs added, respectively. In the same period, the Educational Services sector saw the biggest decline, with 3,900 jobs lost.
