ONLINE PRIVACY POLICY
LAST AMENDED JUNE 6, 2018
Introduction
Calgary Economic Development (CED, "we" or "us") has established this online privacy policy so that you can understand the care with which we intend to treat your personal information. Personal information means any information about an identifiable individual, including, but not limited to, a first and last name, an e-mail address or other contact information.
You can visit CED’s web pages without providing any of your personal information. If you choose to provide us with your personal information through any of our web forms, we will collect, use, and disclose that information within CED, for the purposes associated with the applicable form. We follow this policy regarding your personal information collected through our website and through email and other electronic messages between you and us. CED will not disclose your personal information without your consent to third parties who are not bound to act on CED's behalf unless such transfer is legally required. It is against CED's policy to sell personal information collected online without consent.
What are cookies and how does CED use them?
Cookies are small text files containing a unique identifier that are placed on your device's hard drive or other storage medium to store information about your web browsing and usage.
Like most websites, CED relies on cookies and other commonly used technologies such as pixels to provide website functionality, provide necessary secure areas and the best experience for our users. Cookies and pixels let CED know which pages are being visited, by how many people, how long they stay on a page and other statistics that are useful in relation to the use of our site (collectively, Usage Information).
These statistics are used to help CED understand how our site is used and how it may be improved. CED does not combine information that is gathered with the use of Cookies with any personal information we have collected. By using the CED website, you give us, and trusted third parties, who are bound by contractual obligations to keep Usage Information confidential, consent to collect Usage Information using cookies and similar technologies. Most browsers have been set up to accept cookies, however you may set up your browser to accept, reject or notify you when a cookie is sent.
Consent
You may choose whether to provide your personal information to CED. If you choose not to provide personal information, you can still visit our website, but you will be unable to submit forms or receive our e-marketing material without providing express consent. We will generally obtain your express consent to collect any personal information that we require. Express consent may be given verbally or in writing, including by electronic means.
Depending on the circumstances, your consent may be express or implied. Implied consent can be inferred from the circumstances. For example, if we indicate that we may send certain correspondence to your home address and you provide us with your home address, we would not normally obtain your explicit consent to use your home address to send you that correspondence—your consent would be implied in those circumstances.
Consent may also be withdrawn by contacting us at the address noted below, please note however that withdrawal of consent previously obtained may inhibit CED’s ability to provide continued services. If you choose to have a relationship with CED, contractual or other, we will continue to contact you in regard to that specific business relationship or transaction.
For clarity, your ability to change or withdraw consent is not absolute. CED reserves the right to continue handling your personal information in those circumstances required or permitted by law despite a change or withdrawal of consent.
Security & Retention
Wherever your personal information may be held within CED or on its behalf, we intend to take reasonable and appropriate steps to protect the personal information that you share with us from unauthorized access or disclosure.
For legal and business purposes we may retain your personal information for as long as it is reasonably needed. Upon expiry of the appropriate retention period, bearing in mind our reasonable legal and business requirements, your personal information will either be destroyed in a secure manner or made anonymous.
Agreement & Changes to Policy
By using the CED website, you agree to the terms of this online privacy policy and consent to CED's collection and use of personal information for the purposes set out in this policy, as well as collection and use of Usage Information. Should the online privacy policy change, changes will be brought to your attention by posting all changes prominently on our website for a reasonable period.
Commitment & Contact Information
We are committed to your privacy. Protecting your privacy online is an evolving area, and CED’s website is constantly evolving to meet these demands. If you have any comments or questions regarding our online privacy policy or how we are storing or using your personal information, please contact us at [email protected] or by mail:
