Alberta’s film and television industry is thriving, and a new resource is making it even easier to break in. The Screen Access Alberta website is live — a one-stop digital resource helping creative talent build a career in the province’s screen sector.

Supported by the Government of Alberta, Calgary Economic Development (CED) and Edmonton Screen, Screen Access Alberta was built to cut through the confusion of career pathways. The website centralizes resources including career maps, training opportunities and direct links to unions, guilds and industry networks.

“With Alberta’s film and television industry thriving, we need a skilled workforce to sustain the momentum,” said Brad Parry, President and CEO of CED.

“Screen Access Alberta empowers talent at all levels — whether you’re breaking in or leveling up. By centralizing career guidance and training it strengthens Alberta’s position as a top destination for production, investment and talent.”

While not a job board, Screen Access Alberta is the career GPS Alberta’s film and TV sector has been waiting for. What Screen Access Alberta offers:

  • Career roadmaps to navigate industry entry and advancement;
  • Job insights on opportunities across Alberta’s film and television sector;
  • Professional development and training programs to sharpen skill;
  • Connections to unions, guilds and networking events; and
  • Equity, anti-racism and accessibility resources.

The platform highlights opportunities for creative workers across the entire province, from actors and filmmakers to makeup artists, contractors, writers, animators and behind-the-scenes professionals. Edmonton Screen will manage Screen Access Alberta’s ongoing operations.

What’s driving Alberta’s film success?

Alberta’s film industry is red hot. Calgary just ranked as the fifth-best city in North America for filmmakers, thanks to blockbuster productions — The Last of Us, Fargo and Interstellar, to name a few — top-tier infrastructure and competitive tax incentives.

“Alberta’s cultural industries drive economic growth, create jobs and showcase our province’s rich heritage,” said Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women.

“This website will help us attract and retain top talent, strengthening our position as a global film and TV hub.”

For industry leaders, this launch couldn’t come at a better time.

“Recruitment and professional development are critical to Alberta’s screen industry,” said Dorian Rowe, Interim CEO and Film Commissioner at Edmonton Screen.

“With Screen Access Alberta, we’re making it easier for talent to find opportunities and build lasting careers here.”
