The health and safety of our community is of paramount importance and with concern over the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), Calgary Economic Development has cancelled its annual Report to the Community on March 31st.
“We would have more than 800 people in attendance from business, education and government and we determined it was prudent to cancel,” said Mary Moran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Calgary Economic Development. “The decision wasn’t made lightly. We heeded the guidance from the City of Calgary, Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), Alberta’s Chief Medical Officer, and our own Board of Director in making the difficult decision to cancel this annual event.”
Those who purchased tickets to the event can expect to receive refunds within the next two weeks.
Report to the Community is held each spring to report on the accomplishments of Calgary Economic Development the previous year and lay out the goals for the year ahead. We will be sharing our 2019 results on other platforms.
Our work on behalf of Calgarians continues. For the well-being of our community, we have cancelled all staff travel. Our office will be closed effective Monday, March 16, and our people will work from home. We are optimistic this will help ensure everyone’s safety and a more rapid ‘flattening of the curve’ from the spread of the virus.
