The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is holding a virtual annual conference this year and Calgary Economic Development was recognized for excellence with three marketing awards.
We took home Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes in Excellence in Economic Development Awards that recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials, and the year’s most influential leaders.
“Telling Canadians and the world how Calgary is the city of choice for people who embrace advanced technology to solve some of the world’s biggest challenges is a major part of our job. Earning top international honours for our campaigns shows that our messaging is hitting the mark,” said Mary Moran, President and Chief Executive Officer, Calgary Economic Development.
We won Gold for the Paid Advertising Campaign Live Tech, Love Life. Our flagship talent attraction marketing campaign was launched in Fall 2019 to reshape perceptions of Calgary as a tech centre.
We won Silver for Multimedia & Video Promotion for This is Calgary. Our signature anthem video is a rallying cry for Calgary’s potential as a destination for the world’s best entrepreneurs who want to solve global challenges through technology.
We won Bronze for Partnerships with Educational Institutions for our collaboration with the University of Calgary, SAIT and Bow Valley College in the EDGE UP (Energy to Digital Growth Education and Upskilling Project) Pilot Program funded by the Government of Canada’s Future Skills Centre. The program assists displaced mid-career oil and gas workers in transitioning to digital careers. Calgary Economic Development has led the program that is also delivered in partnership with the Information and Communications Technology Council (ICTC) and Riipen.
“The work we are doing with post-secondary institutions to help highly skilled professionals who had been in oil and gas get the skills to transition to in-demand jobs in tech is example of how collaboration with great partners is the key to success,” said Moran.
The theme for this year’s IEDC conference is building resilient and sustainable communities that thrive.
