The following statement is attributable to Brad Parry, President and CEO of Calgary Economic Development:
"As Calgary's economic development agency, our mandate is to attract, expand, and retain companies, capital, and talent to our city.
"We appreciate the Government of Alberta’s commitment to the long-term financial health and competitiveness of our province.
"In Budget 2024, we were encouraged to see strong fiscal prudence lead to a surplus of $367 million, investment into the Alberta Heritage Fund, and a forecasted decrease in Alberta’s net debt-to-GDP ratio from 9.1 per cent to 7.7 per cent in the next two years.
"We were also encouraged to see financial support and policies to advance clean and emissions reduction technologies, increase apprenticeships, deliver critical infrastructure projects, address water availability challenges, and improve access to affordable housing.
"We look forward to working with the government on advancing economic opportunities in the aerospace, life sciences, and creative industries — three sectors we believe will help ensure Calgary has a resilient and diversified economy.
"In the coming weeks, we will thoroughly review Budget 2024 in consultation with our industry and community partners. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the provincial government to ensure that a high quality of life, promise and possibilities remain true assets for our city and our province."
