Today, the Hon. Nate Horner, President of the Treasury Board and Minister of Finance, presented the Government of Alberta’s budget for 2025-2026. This budget outlines projected expenditures of $79.3 billion, forecasted revenues of $74.1 billion, resulting in an estimated deficit of $5.2 billion for the fiscal year 2025-26, with budget deficits projected of $2.4 billion and $2 billion in 2026-2027 and 2027-2028, respectively.

The following statement can be attributed to Brad Parry, President and CEO, Calgary Economic Development:

“Our province is entering a period of economic uncertainty as we face the threat of looming tariffs from the United States. While the details and exact impact of these tariffs remain unknown, these tariffs will threaten jobs and investment.

“As the economic development agency for Calgary, our mandate is to attract, expand and retain companies, capital and talent to our city.

We have built up incredible momentum for Calgary’s economy and we need to double down on diversification to keep that momentum going. This means supporting innovation and diversifying our economy by remaining focused on our key sectors. It also means diversifying our trade markets internationally, as well as within Canada.

It is encouraging that the Government of Alberta remains focused on the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy and Alberta Export Expansion Program, and we hope to see continued support for economic development activities, workforce strategies and innovation in the coming years.

We will continue to review Budget 2025 in the coming weeks. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with the provincial government to build a more resilient economy for our city and our province.
