Digital transformation is quickly becoming the largest driver of new solutions and technology investments among Calgary businesses. The growth of tech companies aiding in this innovation like AltaML, a leader in applied artificial intelligence, reflects the opportunity that thrives in Calgary.
With 2,309 per cent revenue growth in the past three years, AltaML ranks 18th on the Globe and Mail’s list of Canada’s Top Growing Companies for 2022. To date, AltaML has worked with over 90 clients on more than 400 problems across sectors to accelerate integrated AI and machine learning solutions.
“We are very proud to see AltaML recognized as one of Canada’s Top Growing Companies,” said Nicole Janssen, co-founder and co-CEO of AltaML. Our revenue growth is a reflection of many things done well, as we work toward elevating human potential with applied AI.”
To support digital skills development in Calgary, in July 2020, the Opportunity Calgary Investment Fund (OCIF) announced up to $3.25 million of funding to AltaML over three years to create applied data science internships with hands-on, mentored work experience.
The investment aligns with the economic strategy, Calgary in the New Economy and priorities to provide future-focused learning opportunities to develop homegrown talent and support a growing innovation ecosystem.
Since OCIF’s investment, AltaML has scaled rapidly and created new ventures, AlphaLayer and Jurisage.
“AltaML was established with a growth mindset, but perhaps more importantly, with a scrappiness and a belief in earning revenue to validate that we are actually creating value” said Cory Janssen, co-founder and co-CEO of AltaML. “We’re thrilled to be ranked so highly for revenue growth by the Report on Business as we continue to grow nationally and into the U.S.”
AltaML has offices in Calgary, Edmonton and Toronto, and will soon open its first U.S office in Houston.
There were 17 Calgary companies on the top growing Canadian companies list, including:
Odyssey Trust Company, Partake Brewing, AltaML, High Tide Inc., Field Safe Solutions, Consumer Genius Inc., headversity, Zedcor Inc., True North Mortgage Inc., Gear Re-store Inc., Blackline Safety Corp., Beniva Consulting Group Inc., Echelon Wealth Partners, Keeran Networks, Cooper Equipment Rentals Ltd., SysGen Solutions Group and HomeEquity Bank.
