Hosted by the Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment at the University of Calgary, EARTHx is a series of talks by inspiring speakers sharing earth-changing idea.

Over a decade ago, Dr. Rachel Lauer, along with a research team, ventured into the deep Pacific Ocean near Costa Rica to uncover the secrets of the microbial communities inhabiting the ocean crust. What they unveiled was the world's first known deep-sea octopus nursery.

Join Dr. Lauer on her decades long interdisciplinary voyage of discovery that led to finding a second octopus nursery, a skate nursery, and many more exotic creatures that illustrate the adaptability and resilience of deep-sea life.
