Unemployment in Calgary decreased by 0.7 percentage points in April to 9.3 per cent.
Calgary gained 200 jobs last month, for a total of 805,600 employed, up slightly from 805,400 positions in March. Calgary’s labour force participation rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points to 70.4 per cent.
Alberta’s unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 9 per cent in April, compared with 9.1 per cent in March. The national jobless rate increased by 0.6 percentage points to 8.1 per cent.
The Wholesale / Retail Trade sector and Professional, Scientific & Technical Services saw the strongest gains last month with 3,300 and 3,000 jobs added, respectively. In the same period, the Accommodation & Food Services saw the biggest losses, with 4,100 jobs lost.
