Glen Hodgson, Governor of the Bank of Canada deliver's keynote address at Calgary Economic Development’s 2016 Economic Outlook

September 21, 2015:   GOVERNOR OF THE BANK OF CANADA DELIVER'S KEYNOTE ADDRESS AT CALGARY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT’S 2016 ECONOMIC OUTLOOK   Glen Hodgson and Todd Hirsch deliver economic outlook for global, national and local economy in 2016

(CALGARY) – Today, the 2016 Economic Outlook, hosted by Calgary Economic Development, and presented by ATB Financial, will provide information to help Calgary business leaders understand the current economic trends.
The event includes a keynote address by Governor Stephen S. Poloz of the Bank of Canada, and economic outlook presentations from Glen Hodgson Vice President and Chief Economist, Conference Board of Canada and Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist, ATB Financial. This will be Governor Poloz’s first public speaking engagement in Calgary, and Alberta, since his appointment in 2013.
“The addition of the keynote address by the Governor to an already powerful line up of economists  will provide Calgary business leaders with a substantial and robust outlook on the future of the Canadian and global economy,” said Mary Moran, President and CEO, Calgary Economic Development. "The record high attendance today is a good barometer for how concerned Calgarian’s are about our city, province and country – as we should be."
“Canada’s economic performance was not stellar in the first half of 2015, particularly in oil-producing regions like Alberta that were hit hard by a sharp pullback in oil-sector earnings and investment,” said Glen Hodgson Vice President and Chief Economist, Conference Board of Canada. “Fortunately the U.S. recovery is in full swing, which should help to pull the Canadian economy along via stronger export growth.”
“There’s no question that oil low prices have thrown Alberta’s economy badly off balance. But as with every other downturn in our economy, balance is eventually regained," said Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist, ATB Financial. "How long it will take for economic rebalancing, however, remains a difficult question to answer.”
The Economic Outlook is Calgary Economic Development’s largest signature event with an expected attendance of over 1,500 attendees.
