The future of Alberta’s energy sector and the important role innovation will play, was the topic of discussion at the ‘Big Ideas for Our Energy Future’ webinar session hosted by The Energy Futures Lab on July 6.
The session was the kick-off to a series focused on creating an energy system for the future while fueling Alberta’s economic recovery.
Mary Moran, President & CEO of Calgary Economic Development, introduced the alignment with the economic strategy, Calgary in the New Economy, and took part in a panel discussion with Prageet Nibber, Co-founder of ReWatt Power, Graeme Harrison, CEO of Nutana Power and and Gary Millard, Senior Advisor, Energy & Climate Change at Suncor.
The panelists discussed emerging opportunities within Alberta’s energy sector, ‘the Silicon Valley of pipes and pumps’ that build on our province’s strengths and expertise, how best to utilize Alberta’s talent pool, and some of the world’s best data sources, and create new opportunities for investment, job creation and energy diversification.
The session, which you can watch in full here, put an emphasis on Calgary not only building the technology, but also the solutions to global issues.
