Introducing Calgarypedia!

Calgarypedia is a groundbreaking online initiative to engage and connect Calgarians. It was publically launched in conjunction with the Mayor on October 7, 2008.

This wiki-based website was developed for Calgary Economic Development (CED) and will serve as a platform for Calgarians looking to communicate information about the organizations, activities, events, history and stories which make our city great. Your effort and participation in this exciting project will enhance your organization’s profile on the Web.

Content on the site will be contributed by users and monitored by CED and the community-at-large. In the same way Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.org) has become the authoritative online reference site with content created, monitored and verified by a strong collaborative community of contributors, we are confident Calgarypedia will become a relevant resource about Calgary, created and maintained by Calgarians.

Calgarypedia is one project within CED’s ongoing mandate to position Calgary as the destination of choice for people and business. People are Calgary’s most important asset and the long-term economic growth of Calgary demands that quality of life be a priority.

As identified in the recently released Economic Development Strategy, quality of life for Calgarians and supports for the settlement and integration of newcomers who relocate to Calgary to join our workforce, will be foundational to our sustainability. A number of initiatives are planned to increase Calgary’s presence online through traditional websites as well as the new world of social media: the first of these programs is Calgarypedia.

Be honest and open.
Be respectful of other users.
Cite your source. Link to research, statistics or more information on your own  website.
Review content regularly to ensure accurate and current content.
Don’t post copyright-protected material without permission.
Content is king. Wikis are “bottom-up” in nature. As more content develops, natural groupings will emerge. Calgarypedia also includes some suggested, most-used categories to get you started.
